Kilmarnock South

Renewables

The Renewables Scotland team have been working flat out to keep up the great pace on the Kilmarnock South Project and all their hard work looks to be paying off. When Kilmarnock South is completed it is anticipated to contribute to a saving of up to £1 billion in energy costs for families in the area over the next 15 years, thanks to its focus on reducing energy system inefficiencies.

Equally, the site is expected to prevent 3,400,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the same period. The project aligns with Scotland’s ambitious renewable energy objectives and equips the country with the most up to date technology to manage renewable power.

The team are progressing quickly throughout many aspects of the project, with civil works well advanced and on target allowing for the electrical works to start in September in the BESS Zones. As of this month the team have made the following progress:

  • Earthworks are now completed
  • BESS areas foundations are heading to completion
  • HV and LV ducting in BESS areas are one zone away from completion
  • Transformer Bunds completed and first Super Grid Transformer arrived to site recently to be placed into final position by the end of August
  • Substation platform well advanced with building foundations completed and pre-cast bases starting to be delivered.
  • 400kV cable route, HDD and civil works completed

Update from Kilmarnock

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest news on Watt’s Up you’ll remember last month we featured the Kilmarnock South 300MW Battery Storage project. The Renewables Scotland team recently received a delivery of two new 400kV SGTs on site with one already set in place and the other soon to follow.
