Having braved the unpredictable weather up in the Shetland Islands for quite some time now, the NorPower team are nearing completion on the Kergord – Gremista 132kV Trident Line project. The team are on track to have everything finalised by the time winter rolls around, which we’re sure the lineworkers are very happy about.

The project focusses on the 132kV connection between the Gremista Grid Supply Point (GSP) and Kergord Substation. This 22km line is part of the Shetland HVDC link which, alongside 4km of underground cabling, will provide a connection to Shetland’s local electricity distribution network, connecting the island to the GB energy system.

Tasked with erecting a grand total of 275 poles throughout the project, the team are happy to announce that they have wrapped on this portion of the project. Next up they will finish up the wiring works, having already strung 197 spans of the 272 total. Finally, the ADSS works will be the last to complete as the team reported 151 of the 264 spans have already been strung.

With pole erection starting around this time last year the team have had their work cut out for them but they have managed to maintain an excellent pace no matter what the weather throws at them. Upon completion this line will prove vital in ensuring Shetland’s future security of supply while also helping to connect the Viking Wind Farm currently under construction north of Girlsta along the northern end of the line.
